ALLY McCOIST was the scourge of Celtic fans during his playing days – with no player ever scoring more in Old Firm matches.
But one Hoops fan, putting on his Scotland hat after our Euros demise, admitted he would love to have someone with his goalscoring abilities available for the national team right now.
Speaking on talkSPORT, McCoist’s co-host read out some correspondence from Hoops’ fan David.
It read: “My old man is 80 and I watched Scotland and he said ‘wee man, he broke our hearts for 10 years, but what we would give for a striker like McCoist’.
“We haven’t produced a centre-forward in 30 years and I can’t see that changing soon.”
McCoist agrees that the dearth of striking options is a concern
The Gers hero said: “Such a shame isn’t it? Such a shame in forward areas.
“We have nothing.
“Obviously we have been talking about it since – we have got nobody.
“I am looking at the top teams and they have all got people in wide who can do something different.
“The game changes when you go by people, and we don’t have anybody like that.
“It’s a shame, we have a hard working group of boys that have their best but we lacked that bit of quality, especially in the final third.”
Having said that, McCoist was shocked that we didn’t see more of Lawrence Shankland at the tournament – and he wasn’t the only one.
