GRAEME YOUNG: £30m seems bang on. That smashes the Scottish transfer record and feels a fair price for an ascending attacking midfielder whose best days are ahead of him. Newcastle landed £35m for Elliot Anderson and the dynamite Dane is a better player.
SCOTT BURNS: Some of the figures mentioned have been plucked out of the air. I suspect Celtic, if they were to sell now, would get about the £20 million mark.
SCOTT McDERMOTT: In today’s UK market, with his age and profile, Celtic are within their rights to ask for between £15m and £20m. Whether he’s good enough for the very top level is up for debate but he could certainly cut it in the Premier League.
What do you make of Rangers’ early transfer business?
GRAEME: There is work to do. It’s clear this is the bulking out of the squad phase and more dominos will fall when big name exits take place. There’s belief Hamza Igamane will prove to an under the radar gem.
SCOTT B: Done a lot of business but not enough in terms of starting XI starters. They have bought talent for the future but Rangers need the results in the here and now.
SCOTT McD: Just about every player they’ve brought in so far is a gamble. Oscar Cortes impressed before his injury and looks a good acquisition. But the rest are young and untried. Philippe Clement is right in his assessment that he now needs ready-made quality for his first team.
