There is a buzz growing around Hamza Igamane after Rangers pounced on the striker this summer.
The Moroccan hitman, 21, moves to Ibrox with a sizeable pedigree and fans are excited to see what the kid can offer.
With Igamane costing Rangers around £1.7m you’d have been forgiven for thinking the Moroccan would be straight into the squad for the club’s Dutch training camp.
But the absence of the ex-FAR Rabat striker has been noticeable as a creaking Rangers kick off their pre-season camp with a 0-0 draw against Standard Liege.
Now, one journalist has been providing an update on the Hamza Igamane situation at Rangers.
And he’s been confirming whether or not the player will not be meeting up with his teammates in the Netherlands.
When will Igamane join Rangers squad?
Given Rangers are trying to get a new squad to gel as quickly as possible the situation with Hamza Igamane is a strange one.
Whilst Igamane was announced at Rangers a few days before the club jetted out to Holland, plenty of fans expected the talented forward to join up with the team for the trip.
But for whatever reason Igamane has not yet joined up with the Rangers squad and – according to journalist Andy Newport – he won’t until the team return from Venlo.
Writing for the Daily Record following the 0-0 draw with Standard, Newport claims that Igamane won’t start training with the first-team until ‘next week’.
This is after the club return to Scotland from the gruelling pre-season camp on the continent.
We can predict the excuses already the moment the striker pulls up in a pre-season friendly against Birmingham City and we don’t see him for three months.
Rangers training camp squad uncertainty
Given just how hyped this training camp was by manager Philippe Clement, the situation with Hamza Igamane doesn’t make for great reading.
In fact, given the transfer situation at Rangers in terms of incomings and outgoings we’re not entirely convinced this camp will be the injury panacea it’s being made out to be.
With as many as seven Rangers first-teamers linked to the exit door and – to put it mildly – plenty of transfer work still to be done on incomings, the squad which is currently in Holland could look very different to the one that lines up v Hearts.
It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to work out that Philippe Clement would’ve probably wanted more of the club’s transfer targets through the door in time for this camp kicking off.
Jefte, Clinton Nsiala and Connor Barron are the only new faces currently taking part in the camp with goalkeeper Liam Kelly arriving in Holland yesterday (10/07) after an extended post-Euro 2024 break.
