Several Nottingham Forest players will be looking to impress this afternoon as the Reds return to action.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s side take on Chesterfield in their first friendly of the summer. The match will mostly be about players starting to build up fitness ahead of the 2024/25 Premier League campaign, but it is also a chance for them to catch the head coach’s eye.
Competition for a place in the first XI when the new term begins is sure to be fierce and the Reds will want to hit the ground running when the serious action starts. With that in mind, NottinghamshireLive picks out four players who will hope for an opportunity to stand out against the Spireites
Taiwo Awoniyi
Injury problems have hampered the front man in the last two seasons. He had to watch from the sidelines as fellow striker Chris Wood hit a purple patch in the second half of last term.
Taking all of that into account, along with reports linking him with a move away from the City Ground, Awoniyi could really benefit from having a good pre-season. Having him fully fit and firing from the word go would be huge for Forest. And if he can stay injury free for the whole year, there is no reason why he cannot bag a hatful of goals.
