The summer transfer window is starting to pick up pace but Celtic are yet to make their first signing. That might not remain the case for long as a move to bring in Kasper Schmeichel as Joe Hart’s replacement seems like only a matter of time. On the other hand, there is a belief that Paulo Bernardo will end up back at Parkhead as well.
Let’s see how things play out in that regard. What we have seen so far though are exits. And plenty of them.
Sead Haksabanovic has joined Malmo while Rocco Vata has signed with Watford. Marco Tilio has also left, but on a loan basis, with him returning to Melbourne City FC again. Now, another player has completed a move away from Parkhead after weeks of speculation.
As tweeted out by Celtic’s official account, Hyeongyu Oh has joined Genk. The South Korean striker has moved on a permanent transfer.
Celtic make official announcement as deal finally done
Oh’s time at Celtic certainly proved to be an interesting one. He arrived in early 2023 with the aim of taking Giorgos Giakoumakis’ place in the squad.
Oh showed signs of potential for sure and scored a few goals when given chances. But he never really convinced that he was ready to challenge for a spot in the starting XI.
Oh had played some football in the first half of the 23/24 season under the management of Brendan Rodgers. But following the arrival of Adam Idah on loan, the South Korean striker slipped down the pecking order and barely featured in the second half of the campaign.
One would hope that Celtic are able to sign Idah on a permanent basis from Norwich City this summer. There have been suggestions that Odsonne Edouard could be set to leave Crystal
Palace as well.

Celtic will reportedly get £6 million transfer deal done

While plenty of players have left Celtic this summer and more seem to be on their way out, the club have not been very active when it comes to incomings. At least that is what it looks like from the outside. The Hoops are yet to make their first signing of the window although a move for Kasper Schmeichel is believed to be on the verge of completion. After that, they will need to turn their attention elsewhere.
Another position where one would expect Celtic to strengthen this summer is midfield. Especially considering the constant speculation around the future of Matt O’Riley.
O’Riley has been linked with clubs like Atletico Madrid, Manchester United, Inter Milan, Atalanta and several others. It feels very likely that the Danish midfielder will depart this summer for what is expected to be a Scottish record transfer fee.
On the other hand, there has been speculation about Celtic trying to bring back Paulo Bernardo on a permanent basis after his solid loan spell at the club. And there seems to be an update regarding that situation.
Celtic will reportedly get £6 million transfer deal done
It looks like a deal to sign Bernardo is not far away. As reported by Football Insider, Aberdeen’s former chief Keith Wyness said on their Insider Track podcast:
“It will get done.
“I spoke to someone in Portugal about this deal the other day and they said the deal will end up around £6million.
“The wages won’t be a problem.”
There had been suggestions earlier in the summer that wages were proving to be an obstacle in signing Bernardo. But it looks like that is not the case.
Of course, Bernardo was not a regular starter for Celtic during his loan stint at Parkhead but he did show a ton of potential. There are a number of areas where he needs to improve further but if he can take that next step, then the Portuguese youth international will be a fantastic midfielder for years to come.
