SAM LAMMERS is set to finally end transfer speculation and cut ties with Rangers in the coming days, according to a report.
The Rangers outcast, 27, is one of several players heading for the exit door at Ibrox this summer as Philippe Clement looks to offload many fringe stars.
Lammers moved to Glasgow in a £3.5million deal from Italian giants Atalanta last year under former boss Michael Beale.
But despite featuring regularly at first, the forward struggled to make an impact before falling completely out of the picture when Clement arrived at the club.
He joined Utrecht in January and went on to enjoy an incredible upturn in form, scoring 10 goals in 18 Eredivisie appearances on his return to the Netherlands.
Utrecht were keen to bring him back on a permanent move but were priced out of a deal due to the player’s high salary demands.
But Lammers is still set for a quick return to his homeland as he is reportedly closing in on a stunning move to one of Utrecht’s rivals.
That’s according to TuttoMercato – who claim the striker is just “one step away” from completing a move to FC Twente.
There is no indication over the fee involved in the transfer but the Light Blues will be looking to recoup the £3.5m they spent on him last year.
The deal will free up funds for Clement to spend elsewhere after the manager admitted the club need to sell before they can buy new players.
The Rangers manager is also prepared to let both James Tavernier and Connor Goldsonleave as high earners.
Todd Cantwell and Ianis Hagi are also expected to be on their way out of the club.
Cantwell was a bit-part player for the Belgian last season could rake in a decent fee for the Light Blues to spend elsewhere.
SunSport understands several English clubs have declared interest in the midfielder but Gers have yet to receive any firm offers.
