A player who left the City Ground in 2015 is now set to leave his current club after Nottingham Forest showed interest.
Ross Wilson – Director of Football at the City Ground– has already turned his attention towards bolstering Nuno Espirito Santo‘s attacking options, after strengthening the defence with the signing of Nikola Milenkovic from Fiorentina.
So, who could now return to Nottingham Forest? Let’s take a look…
Chuba Akpom set for Ajax exit as Nottingham Forest show interest
A story from Soccer Net now claims that Chuba Akpom is set to leave Ajax after Nottingham Forest reignited interest.
The Nigerian news outlet states that Nottingham Forest made a move to sign the striker in January, offering Ajax €15m (£12.6m) for his signature, but talks collapsed after the Dutch giants asked for €17m (£14.3m).
Soccer News believe Ajax are now under pressure to sell players this summer, and would be vulnerable if Nottingham Forest make a new bid.
Akpom previously made seven appearances on loan at Nottingham Forest from Arsenal back in 2015 – failing to score or assist a goal before moving to Hull City on another loan deal.
Cheap deal could prove to be inspired business
Soccer News do not mention any kind of asking price from Ajax, although if Nottingham Forest put their £12.6m offer from January back on the table and the Eredivisie side accept, it could prove to be a fine bit of business.
Akpom – who Nottingham Forest also looked at signing in 2021 – impressively scored 15 goals in 36 appearances last season, having previously netted 29 goals in 42 outings for Middlesbrough in the 2022/23 campaign.
The 28-year-old clearly knows where the net is, while his presence at the City Ground could motivate Taiwo Awoniyi and Chris Wood to step things up, as the pair currently have very little competition.
