The “small print” from Nottingham Forest’s points deduction reveals that their appeal could have a “catastrophic” impact, sources have told Football Insider.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke believes Forest are “asking for trouble” by appealing their points deduction.
Forest were handed a four-point deduction for breaching the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules in their 2022-23 accounts.
They were given an initial six-point deduction which was reduced by two points for the club’s good compliance with the investigation.
Forest released a club statement on Monday (25 March) announcing that they have decided to appeal the decision.
Nottingham Forest have put themselves at risk of ‘catastrophic’ blow
The appeal verdict is expected on May 24 – five days after the end of the 2023-24 season.
As revealed by Football Insider, there is a “disaster” scenario which could see Forest receive a bigger points deduction after their appeal.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s side have dropped into the relegation zone following the points deduction and have just nine games remaining to secure their top-flight status.
“But when they were given the verdict, there was something in the small print saying if they make a frivolous appeal then the punishment could be even bigger.
“So they’re asking for trouble and it could now be more than four points which would be catastrophic for Forest’s survival fight.”
