Newcastle United spent over a month trying to snap up Marc Guehi and the deal is being tipped for a winter resurrection.
Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe was “desperate” to lure Marc Guehi to St James’ Park during the transfer window after the £70m attempt to sign the England star fell flat.
As the days ticked down on the summer trading period, Newcastle tried not to blink with Guehi but in doing so missed out on other targets. Nevertheless, with so much time invested in the negotiations, United are now being tipped to return to Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish with a fresh offer in January.
Crystal Palace legend Clinton Morrison, still close to stars on the player circuit and insiders at Selhurst Park, claims to have knowledge of the deal and told 10bet: “I think the only Premier League club that might be disappointed with their transfer window is Newcastle.
“Newcastle might come back in for Guehi in January. I don’t think that the ship has sailed because Eddie Howe was desperate to sign him. He was really disappointed that he didn’t manage to bring him in.
Guehi picked up two more caps over the international programme and helped the Three Lions to victories over the Republic of Ireland and Finland in the UEFA Nations League.
Morrison reflected: “I love that he hasn’t let the speculation affect his performances. He’s started the season ever so well at Palace. I think it will be difficult for the club to hold onto him long-term because he’s shown that he is a Champions League-level player.
“Newcastle missed out on him this summer, they might be worried that if they don’t try again in January, Guehi could have other offers on the table next summer.”
