Birmingham City have unveiled Chris Davies as the man who will lead them into their summer transfer drive and the forthcoming League One campaign. Davies, who is only 39, is embarking on his first managerial gig having agreed a four-year deal, but it’s a venture which has been years in the making following a series of successful coaching spells at some big clubs – including Liverpool, Celtic and Tottenham Hotspur.
Davies the player was forced into retirement in his late teens because of an an arthritic condition, but he remained in football and pursued a career in coaching. He struck up a fruitful working relationship with Brendan Rodgers while the pair were at Swansea City, and from they also worked together at Liverpool, Celtic and then onto Leicester City.
Most recently Davies has worked under Ange Postecoglou at Spurs, but Blues have presented him with an opportunity to finally branch out and try his hand in management. Tasked with building a side which can challenge for an immediate return to the Championship, Davies has a task on his hands, but judging by his own comments he’s determined to by a success in this sphere.
