Ben Godfrey’s time at Atalanta has been far from comfortable and his adjustment to life after Everton has been rather difficult.
There has even been talk of an early exit in the past few weeks and it has been apparent that he’s struggling to fit into Gian Piero Gasperini’s setup at La Dea.
Sean Dyche’s tactical setup at Everton is very different from Gasperini’s attacking, man-marking setup at Atalanta, and there now seems to be more trouble for the Englishman.
TuttoAtalanta state that Godfrey’s issues are more than about tactics and he is quickly becoming a Mitchell Bakker-like case, with the Dutchman never having made a mark in Bergamo.
The defender’s ‘condition remains uncertain’ and he is yet to be available for Gasperini from a technical perspective. There have been fitness issues that have hampered the 26-year-old’s adaptation to a new tactical approach.
Godfrey last played for Atalanta more than a month ago and after being on the bench after that appearance, injury issues have held him back.
He wasn’t in the club’s squad for the defeat to Como, and there’s a lot of work to do for Godfrey to adapt from Everton to Le Dea.
