The Newcastle United manager was let down over the summer after the club’s recruitment team failed to land any top targets.
Appointment of Paul Mitchell as sporting director, but his first few months on Tyneside have been turbulent.
Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi was a top target for Mitchell but Newcastle ended up walking away from a deal late on after his price tag rose above £70m.
Attention then turned to trying to strengthen the right-wing position, but after missing out on Michael Olise earlier in the summer, Newcastle then failed with a deadline-day bid for Anthony Elanga.
Newcastle United reignite Jacob Ramsey interest
Newcastle have been long-term admirers of Aston Villa star Jacob Ramsey.
The Magpies were first linked to Ramsey in Januarywhen Howe was eager to strengthen in central midfield.
However, Newcastle walked away from a January deal because the club was hamstrung by Premier League Profit and Sustainability Rules and couldn’t afford him.
Newcastle were linked with Ramsey again in the summer with Villa willing to sell the 23-year-old to try and escape their own PSR issues.
Now, GiveMeSport report that Newcastle are one of three Premier League sides that are interested in signing Ramsey at the end of the season.
They add that Arsenal and Tottenham are also showing an interest in the £50m-rated star, who Villa could let leave in the summer.
Newcastle United could invest in midfield
Newcastle are prioritising a right-sided winger in the upcoming January transfer window. The return of Jamaal Lascelles and Sven Botman at centre-back means plans to sign a centre-back have been shuffled down the pecking order.
