This season has been quite the disappointment for the Kentucky Wildcats as they will likely miss a bowl for the first time in quite some time under Mark Stoops.
Normally, a team that is at least competitive on the field, this year’s squad has given the fanbase quite the roller coaster ride. Despite that fact, the Cats are now looking for answers as they enter quite possibly the most important offseason for the sport going forward.
It is no secret that college football is vastly different from how it looked two years ago. With NIL and the transfer portal, now enter expanded rosters to 100 players and profit sharing with the schools, and the sport looks vastly different.
In Wednesday’s SEC Teleconference, Mark Stoops was asked about the changes and if he has ever talked with his peers about the changes.
“We do want to be part of the solution and try to help,” Stoops stated. “It seems like it’s completely out of our hands, but we do try to get involved and try to help, discuss it, and if nothing else, maybe vent to each other.”
He continued:
But again, I’ll keep that to ourselves, because I don’t want that to be any headline, because everybody will say we make too much money to complain, and that’s true. But we are looking for solutions to just try to help the game, just get some common sense approaches to help the future of college football.”
After a solid response, the UK Head Coach seemingly gave the answer that most in the BBN likely wanted to hear;
“Clearly there’s been a few things that I could identify that I didn’t do a very good job with in the past couple of years. I don’t want to get into that and I’m not making an excuse, I just didn’t do a good enough job. I have to do better in certain areas. And I don’t want to say what that is, because I don’t want anybody to think it’s an excuse.”
At least some problems are starting to get pointed out and hopefully fixed. Now we will just have to wait and see if any changes come.
