Leeds United have no fresh injury concerns ahead of Saturday’s meeting with Championship strugglers Queens Park Rangers. It is a quick turnaround for the Whites and boss Daniel Farke says he will assess his squad before finalising his starting XI.
“Most of the players came through the game without injuries,” said Farke. “There are one or two knocks and tired legs.
“We have to wait to see how they will [recover] in next 48 hours. We will make some late decisions if we have to mix it up. We will see.”
It remains a mystery whether Joe Gelhardt will be available for selection. The versatile attacker has missed their past two matches due to a hip problem. No update was given on his injury status.
Farke remains unable to call upon Ethan Ampadu, Ilia Gruev and Largie Ramazani due to injury. United will be looking to return to winning ways after their disappointing 1-0 loss to Millwall last night. They looked short of ideas at the top end of the pitch as the Lions condemned them to a first defeat in nine.
Farke said: “We always want to be competitive. Our midfield play was nearly perfect. We pressed them high and won the ball back in counter pressing.
“We dominated the game. We played more or less in their half but that’s football. They converted their only chance.
“We play to score goals and that’s what was lacking yesterday.”
Farke has come in for some criticism for his style of play as well as his use of the substitutes bench. “I was pleased with how dominant we were (against Millwall),” he said. “We dominated the game. They didn’t have many set pieces or crosses but we simply didn’t score a goal. I want us to show more of a cutting edge.
“If you don’t win a game, you should have made substitutes earlier. When you draw or lose a game, you can always argue a different way. You have to make decisions in the heat of the moment. You have different plans and that’s why we changed after 70 and 80 minutes yesterday. We don’t want to be stubborn. We want to win games.
Victory on Saturday could nudge the Whites back into the automatic promotion slots going into the November international break. Sixteen points and 20 places separate United and the QPR in the table.
It has been a wretched season for the R’s. They sit second-from-bottom, five points adrift of safety, following a 10-match winless run.
