Elliot Anderson has been backed to “show everyone how good he is” for Nottingham Forest after his move to the City Ground.
Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer says the Reds have got themselves a top player in the midfielder, who made the switch from St James’ Park earlier this week. But the ex-striker is not a fan of the financial rules which led to the Magpies needing to sell in the first place.
Forest splashed out £35 million to secure Anderson’s services on a five-year contract. The deal came about as Newcastle were under pressure to raise funds in order to comply with Profitability and Sustainability Rules before last Sunday’s accounting deadline.
Obviously, Newcastle had to sell players because of PSR,” Shearer told Betfair. “I’m pleased they’ve done the business they’ve done, I’m pleased they didn’t sell (Alexander) Isak and Bruno.
“I know Anderson loved playing for Newcastle, but hopefully he’ll get more game time at Forest and he can show everyone how good he is. He’s a really good player. I think because of what Newcastle had to do and the timing of it, it’s been good business for them.
