The most obvious addition will be the corner box in the space between the Trent End and the Brian Clough Stand. But there are other changes that will mean squeezing in a few extra rows of seating elsewhere in the stadium.
One plan is to tinker with the position of the big screen in the Bridgford Stand, moving it further back against the wall. The segregation line between the away end and the Clough Stand may also be altered.
Forest’s capacity has been locked at 29,700 since their return to the Premier League in summer 2022 and, more than once, the people running the club have been on a tour of the ground, looking at every possible way to satisfy the demand for tickets.
For Marinakis, it is important to have a stadium that houses 30,000 or more. The optics immediately look better. Financially, it is better, too. It will show the club’s growth, when there has been only one occasion in the past 25 years that Forest have been able to announce a crowd of that size — 30,277 against bitter local rivals Derby County in September 2014.
It brings the City Ground closer in line to the 33,000-capacity Karaiskakis Stadium, the home of their Marinakis-owned Greek sister club Olympiacos. And these things matter to the Forest hierarchy.
As for that corner box, it will accommodate another 180 spectators, and its initial designs are understood to have been modified so extra seats can be accommodated in the near vicinity.
