FC Schalke 04 has temporarily moved out of the relegation zone in the 2. Bundesliga with their first win since late September. The 2-0 (1-0) victory against direct rivals Jahn Regensburg on matchday twelve is likely to strengthen the position of coach Kees van Wonderen. This marks the Dutchman’s first win as Schalke’s manager in five competitive matches.
Kenan Karaman (16th minute) and Moussa Sylla (53rd minute) secured the club’s third victory of the season, propelling the Königsblauen to 14th place with a total of twelve points. Regensburg, following two competitive wins under interim coach Andreas Patz, remains at the bottom of the table with only seven points.
Schalke was clearly dominant from the outset but struggled to create significant scoring opportunities initially. The uncertainty from recent weeks, where the club had lost three out of four matches under coach van Wonderen, was palpable.
The first goal came through a brilliant individual effort from Karaman, who turned and shot the ball into the net with an unstoppable strike. In the second half, Schalke maintained the pressure and showed resilience. The deserved second goal came from Sylla, who poked the ball over the line after a scramble. The Königsblauen missed several additional chances to extend their lead. © Deutsche Presse-Agentur
