Frank Lampard once estimated that Chelsea transfer target Dominic Calvert-Lewin was worth up to £80million to Everton.
The footballing legend-turned-manager worked with the 27-year-old at Everton between 2022 and 2023, and in a season where the Merseysiders narrowly survived relegation to the Championship by just two points.
Despite Calvert-Lewin being plagued by injury that season – a knee-injury sidelined him for 60 days while recurring hamstring injuries kept him out of action for a further 17 games – Lampard valued the star striker incredibly highly.
Speaking about the striker, who has been a staple part of Everton’s side since 2016, Lampard admitted in 2022: “I don’t think you can look away from the fact of what a £60million, £70m, £80m striker can do for you.
The impact he can have on confidence and the team and what he offers is a huge deal. I don’t want to look too far ahead but if we can keep him fit that will be a positive.”
Chelsea have spent big during the summer’s transfer window in a bid to bolster their team which only could only muster a sixth-place finish in the Premier League last season.
