At least one club are said to have ended their interest in Murillo as the Nottingham Forest ace prepares to return for pre-season Trentside.
The centre-back has a long list of admirers after a sparkling first year with the Reds. But it seems Juventus have ruled themselves out of trying to prise him away from the City Ground.
According to Sport Italia (via Sport Witness), the Italian giants are unable to accommodate another non-EU player in their squad. It means a move for Murillo is not on the cards.
Journalist Alfredo Pedulla is quoted as saying: “With the arrival of Douglas Luiz and Adzic, Juventus cannot take other non-EU players, so any talk of Murillo from Nottingham Forest or other candidates has no reason to exist, we are at the level of waste paper.”
Forest managed to avoid a scenario where they might have had to consider letting Murillo go for a cut-price deal before the end of last month in order to comply with Profitability and Sustainability Rules. The club were under pressure to raise funds for the accounting deadline of June 30, but the impending sales of Moussa Niakhate and Orel Mangala to Lyon means they expect to comply with the regulations.
It is unlikely to stop teams continuing to track Murillo. However, it should mean the Reds are able to consider any offers – should they come in – on their own terms. They should be in a stronger position to assess any interest in the player, who is valued at upwards of £60 million.
