A Callum Hudson-Odoi special secured a sensational win for Nottingham Forest as they beat Liverpool 1-0 at Anfield to maintain their unbeaten start to the Premier League season.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s side made the trip to Merseyside looking to build on their positive start to the campaign. And they did just that in a competitive first half where they held their own against the hosts.
The Reds did have a few narrow escapes as they went in at the break all-square, but most of them came from their own errors. Luis Diaz hit the post after catching out Ryan Yates just past the quarter-hour mark, then Dominik Szoboszlai headed wide soon after.
Matz Sels made a big save to keep out Alexis Mac Allister with 37 minutes gone, but was almost left red-faced when he dropped a Diaz header through his own legs. Forest generally looked solid, though.
Morgan Gibbs-White had the visitors’ best opportunity at the other end of the pitch when he latched on to a Murillo pass. The England international could only fire wide when through one-on-one, although the offside flag spared his blushes somewhat anyway.
The Reds continued to shut out their opponents after the break. And after Anthony Elanga had missed a big chance, he then set up fellow substitute Hudson-Odoi. It was a typical goal from the former Chelsea winger, and with the visitors able to hold on in the closing minutes it secured Forest a first league win at Anfield for 55 years.
