WITH enough sons to make a five-a-side team, it should come as no surprise to find out that Ally McCoist’s family is football daft.
And 26-year-old Argyll has taken his biggest step yet towards following in his father’s footballing footsteps with arguably the biggest move of his footie career.
Since 2022 Argyll has been working with FirstPoint USA as a sports consultants, working with prospective student-athlete clients.
On the football field, while comparisons with Ally’s goalscoring exploits are obvious, Argyll is taller than his dad but also has his eye for goal.
He was at local Govan side Harmony Row before sustaining a serious injury.
But he has proved his worth in the junior ranks, having spent the last two seasons with Port Glasgow Juniors.
While ‘the Undertakers’ last season ended the season in the relegation spots in Scotland’s eighth tier, McCoist has been snapped up by ambitious Drumchapel Utd.
The ‘Drum’ won the WoS first division last season and so will play in the WoSL Premier Division this season – Scotland’s SIXTH tier.
That’s just one beneath the Lowland League and means they’re in with the likes of Auchinleck Talbot, Darvel and fellow promoted side Johnstone Burgh.
Johnstone Burgh’s squad contains stars such as Kyle Lafferty and Graham Dorrans, both of whom worked with Argyll’s dad back in the day.
Ambitious Drumchapel have also just appointed another of McCoist’s old Rangers players, Nacho Novo, as a coach.
Beith have won the league each of the last two seasons – although they’ve been unable to play in play-offs for promotion as they don’t have the required licence.
