The Celtic fans are famous the world over for the colour, noise and passion they show for their team.
The atmosphere created in the Glasgow Derby and the Champions League leaves even some of the world’s top football stars in awe.
The 3-0 win over Rangers in 2022 was probably one of the best I have seen at Celtic Park in recent times. The historic meeting against Barcelona in the 2-1 win at Parkhead also created one of the best TIFOs I have ever seen.
The point is, when it comes to making Celtic Park a hostile atmosphere, the Parkhead support is one of the best in the business.
And John Hartson has reflected on one night in particular where the Celtic supporters absolutely blew him away.
John Hartson’s Celtic ‘hairs on the back of your neck’ moment
The date was the 20th of March 2003 and Celtic were on their way to the UEFA Cup final in Seville. But before they got there, Liverpool stood before them in the quarter-final stage.
The first leg was at Celtic Park and Hartson recalls that night as one that was ‘incredible’.
Hartson said [Celtic FC], “Well the Liverpool game when we drew Liverpool, it was very very exciting. Not a lot of people will know this but I’m a big Liverpool fan.
“I played with Ian Rush in the national team who, ultimately, was my idol and I remember getting Liverpool in the UEFA Cup quarter-final, the game here was incredible.
“The atmosphere was like nothing that I ever experienced before. I remember Henrik Larsson scored the goal and Emile Heskey scored their goal.
“And as I said, that night was incredible. Watching both sets of fans singing You Never Walk Alone, the hairs on the back of your neck are standing up, the butterflies are there.
“I had some family in the crowd and it was just an unbelievable occasion.”
